FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • 3D ultrasound imaging involves rendering a two-dimensional ultrasound image into the third dimension, providing a more detailed view of your baby. Adding time or motion creates 4D imaging, which shows real-time movement. At Bubba Peek, we offer both 3D and 4D imaging to enhance your bonding experience with your baby throughout your pregnancy. This elective service complements, but does not replace, the medical diagnostic scans performed during your pregnancy.

  • 3D/4D Scanning is available from 20-35 weeks gestation. For the best results, we recommend scheduling your 3D/4D ultrasound between 28 to 32 weeks of pregnancy as your baby will have plenty of room to move and enough fluid to get clear images of the face.

  • While we strive to capture the best possible images, each baby’s scan may vary based on factors such as position, amount of amniotic fluid, and development. If your baby is facing the placenta, the side of the uterus, or if their hands or feet are covering their face, it might affect image quality. In such cases, we will do everything we can to encourage baby to move and to get a nice picture.

  • For early pregnancy scans (8-16 weeks), a full bladder is encouraged as it will help us see baby clearly.

For 20+ week scans having a full bladder is not necessary. However, staying well-hydrated throughout the day before your appointment is recommended to help with image quality.

  • Extensive studies over 30 years have shown that ultrasound is safe and does not harm mother or baby. 3D and 4D ultrasounds use the same type and intensity of sound waves as traditional 2D scans.

  • As this is an elective, non-medical scan, it is not covered by Medicare or private health insurance.
